A longtime Sherwood High School teacher turned himself in to Portland police this week after a grand jury indicted him on 29 counts of sex crimes involving children.

Brian David Trostel, 60, was hired at the school in 1995 and fired on Dec. 18 after district officials learned of his arrest, a spokesperson said in a release.

The charges include two counts of using a child in a display of sexually explicit conduct, 16 counts of encouraging child sex abuse and 11 counts of invasion of privacy.

Portland police said they believe Trostel’s alleged crimes were committed in the city and the agency has identified a victim.

“At this time we have no reason to believe students within our district have involvement in any current investigation related to Mr. Trostel,” Sherwood district spokesperson Christine Andregg wrote in a release.

She told The Oregonian/OregonLive the district has reported Trostel to the Teacher Standards and Practices Commission, which has the authority to revoke his license to teach in Oregon.

Since 2004, the agency has revoked the licenses of two other Sherwood educators for sex crimes involving children.

In August of 2003, then-Sherwood High Principal Robert Patton resigned after he was convicted of possession of materials depicting sexually explicit conduct of a child and sexual abuse. His educator license was revoked three months later.

In 2014, Denise Keesee pleaded guilty to sexually abusing a 16-year-old boy when she was a teacher at Sherwood High.

The former educator faced six counts of second-degree sexual abuse involving two students, including the one she admitted to assaulting. The boy’s mother first reported finding inappropriate text messages between her son and Keesee in 2008.

That investigation was dropped until allegations involving another student surfaced in 2012. Her teaching license was revoked in April of 2015.
